VT Enterprises Consulting Services

Since recently retiring from Nokia, I am seeking remote work anywhere in the United States - consulting, contract, and full time opportunities. I am actively involved at:

  • Continuing to consult - leveraging my board and system test expertise.
  • Continuing to consult - leveraging my networking expertise.
  • Continuing to consult - leveraging my software engineering expertise.
  • Continuing to consult about SOHO layouts.
  • Actively involved with the IEEE P2654 and IEEE P1687.1 standards efforts as a key technical member developing simulations and architecture for each standard.
  • Co-authoring papers for European Test Symposium/TESTA 2019 Workshop, AUTOTESTCON 2019, and International Test Conference 2019.
  • Continue to develop my skills and passion for Python programming taking webinars, reading books, and developing GitHub projects.
  • Learning new skills, like web development, to get a better understanding how other industries outside of embedded programming use software tools and languages. (I have set up this Jekyll based site on GitHub and have developed my own home server (See my LAMP Server Project page))
  • Spending time refining some of my personal projects. (See my NAS Experiment and Print Server Project pages)

Although dabbling in new technology is fun and challenging, I desire to find a place in industry where I can apply my skills to real world problems and continue to challenge myself to find commonsense solutions to unresolved issues. I also find I miss being able to mentor colleagues and watch them grow as they learn. I am able to continue some of my mentoring friendships, but it is not the same as working with colleagues tackling real world, industry problems.

In the meantime, I am consulting with friends and industry contacts regarding Small Office Home Office (SOHO) Layouts, Boundary-Scan Test, System Test, Board Test, and embedded instrumentation.

I would love to talk to you about work I can do for you.

Home Projects

Network Attached Storage (NAS)

I have found I was pretty successful at tackling many of my personal projects over the years, but only by prioritizing what I needed at the time and focusing on those. Network Attached Storage (NAS) for my home office was the most important and required a lot of product evaluations and experimentation. I tried a few commercial products hoping for an “Off-the-Shelf” solution to my NAS needs. Check out my Network Attached Storage (NAS) home project page.

The second task to tackle was networking my home and office printers so I can access them from any PC in the home. I again tried to find a commercial product that would meet my needs. Unfortunately, not all solutions worked to fill all my requirements. So I lived with trade-offs until I developed the ultimate print server that met my needs. Check out my Print Server Experiments project page.

Home Web server

After retiring from Nokia, I wanted to learn some new technology. Since I needed to set up a personal web site, I thought learning how web servers work would be a good learning project. So I pulled out a Pogoplug Pro and configured it to be a web server where I can experiment with dynamic services and static pages (LAMP vs Jekyll Servers). Check out my LAMP Server project page.

Industry Standards Contributions

I am actively involved in various IEEE Standards Working Groups helping to define new standards for testing systems. Check out all of my standards pages for more information: IEEE Std 1581
IEEE Std 1687
IEEE P1687.1
IEEE P2654
SJTAG

Open Source Contributions

I am beginning to publish various blocks of code that I have found useful when developing new embedded instruments to aid in the analysis and simulation of the hardware designs. These are based on the myHDL package in Python. I am also posting forks of current open source projects that I needed to alter or update to find useful for my work.
